Video Card Temps
The video card is an important part of your computer that ensures that the images that you see on your monitor are crisp and sharp giving you a better visual experience so that you can enjoy your video games and movies when you play them on your computer. Today, there are many video card companies available in the market. Each one has something unique to offer. No matter which video card you use, you need to ensure that the entire system is working fine and that the temperature of your video card is well maintained. Overheating your computer system can have a direct impact on the quality of the hardware and also on the performance of your computer.
Monitoring Video Card Temperature
To ensure that your video card is working fine and that your video card temperature is maintained, you need to keep a track on it. If you are very interested in tracking the temperature of your video card, there are several video card temperature monitoring software packages available on the market. Top video card manufacturers do not authorize these software packages, so this is why the results you get on the screen are just an estimated numbers and not the exact and actual temperatures. The temperatures these third party applications provide is usually pretty good though. Also, many video cards come with software from the manufacturer that will allow you to track the temperature of the video card. For example, many ATI cards come with the catalyst application that tracks video card temperature.
Lowering Video Card Temperature
There are different ways in which you can bring down the overall temperature of your video card. To bring down the temperature of your video card, you need to understand that video cards use a lot of electricity and convert that into heat. Hence, you should provide more cooling to the video card for its better functionality. One of the easiest and best ways to keep your video card temperature in check is to keep the computer case clean. It has been found that regular computer users hardly open up their computer case to clean the dirt that has been accumulated on the motherboard and video card. The dirt gradually covers the important parts of a video card and does not allow any air to flow. Due to this, video card temperature can zoom up within a few minutes of use that can lead to various graphic problems.
Adding computer fans is also a great way to bring down computer case temperature and consequently the video card temperature. Computer fans are available at any computer shop and they do not cost much. Computer fans are designed to remove the warm air and to suck in the cool air from outside to keep the computer hardware cool. You can add an extra computer fan near your video card to keep it working at lower temperatures.
Heat sinks are equally good when it comes to keeping the temperature of your video card low. Heat sinks are not that costly either and you can definitely use them to keep your video card working efficiently because they remove unwanted heat from the device and prevent it from overheating. Most video cards come with a heat sink, but you can always upgrade this for better cooling.
